About Laser Treatment of Pigmented Lesions:

Lasers use the melanin in tissue to exert their effect, thus they are perfect for utilization in treating pigmented lesions of the skin.  The laser selectively destroys the melanin without disrupting the normal surrounding tissue.  Solar lentigines (age spots), cafe-au-lait spots, hemangiomas, and other pigments lesions can all be treated effectively using the GentleMax Pro laser system.

Number of treatments:

Some pigmented lesions can be treated with one treatment, but many require 2-3 treatments.  Sessions should be separated by 4 weeks.

Appointment Time (may vary):

15-30 minutes, depending on the number and size of the lesions.

Downtime:

None.  There may be slight erythema around the lesion for 20-30 minutes after.  Patients should avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks after treatment.  Also, patients should not have had any prolonged sun exposure for the 4 weeks prior to treatment.

Ideal Candidate:

Any patient with pigmented skin lesions that they would like to have removed.
