Latisse® is FDA approved for the treatment of hypotrichosis (inadequate, or too little hair) of the eyelashes. It leads to increased eyelash growth, thickness, and darkness. The exact mechanisms of action is unknown, but Latisse® is thought to increase the percentage of hairs that are in the growth phase. It takes approximately 12-16 weeks for maximum benefit, but improvement in lashes can be seen at 6-8 weeks*. The effect on eyelash growth stops once the medicine is no longer used.
Each night, the patient places one drop of Latisse® on a disposable sterile applicator and evenly applies it to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the lashes. They then blot off any excess solution and dispose of the sterile applicator.
